Neeruti

The first mention of Neeruti, which is located about 100 kilometers east of Tallinn, dates back to 1412.  Two notable manors were located in the Neeruti Hill fort.  According to a folktale, the hill fort with its forests and lakes were formed when the national epic hero Kalevipoeg’s, or Kalevi’s, boy ploughed and cultivated the land.

There are two marked nature trails in Neeruti (1,5km and 3,5km).   The nature trails pass near lakes and through hills to a ridge.  The trails are pretty demanding with many uphills and downhills on the ridge.  The area is perfect not only for landscape enthusiasts, but also for plant lovers and bird watchers.
