Lighting Design Competition rules

  1. The Organiser of the competition

The organisers of the competition are Metsähallitus Parks & Wildlife Finland (PL 94/Vernissakatu 4, 013101 Vantaa) and Humak University of Applied Sciences and Arts (TKI-keskus Meri, Köydenpunojankatu 14, 20100 Turku)

 

  1. The aim of the competition

The competition aimed at finding proposals for the light-themed event. The implementation of the winning proposal will be carried out by the main organisers as separate procurements during 2017 according to the public procurement rules. The participants are asked to design a temporary light installation on the façade of Raasepori castle. The winning proposal will be the highlight of Raasepori’s light-themed event in August 2017.

 

  1. Participation

The competition is open to all Finnish, Estonian and foreign citizens over 18 years of age. Each contestant or team can submit up to three proposals. Each proposal must be entered into the competition separately. Previously published installations can also be entered into the competition. In these cases, contestants must include information about the previous occasions on which the installation has been used and on intellectual property rights.

The budget for the implementation of the work (including the technical production, electricity and other production costs) is EUR 30 000, including the effective VAT. The budget must be included in the application and presented with sufficient accuracy.

  1. The language of the competition and of the application documents

The official languages of the competition are English and Finnish. The applications can be submitted in English and Finnish.

 

  1. Submitting competition proposals

Participation takes place through an electronic Lyyti-application link. All appendices submitted to the competition must be signed under a pseudonym. Further instructions for the format of the applications can be found on the registration page. Proposals received after the deadline will not be considered. Proposals will not be returned to contestants.

The winner is chosen by a jury, consisting of six specialists of lighting design and culture, which grades the proposals. The jury members may not participate to the competition themselves.

 

  1. Prize

The winner of the competition will receive a prize of EUR 8 000 (taxable income). The jury has the right to not award the prize in case a suitable proposal has not been received.

 

  1. Immaterial property rights of the competition proposals

The copyright of the proposals remains with the individual/working group which has created it. The participant is responsible for the content of the proposal and that it can be uploaded on the internet for public display. The participant carries the possible responsibility of the violation of immaterial property rights of the proposal and the delivered materials, documents and photos (“Materials”).

By entering the competition, the participant assigns the right to use and publicly display his/her proposal to the organiser permanently and without a separate contract so that the Materials can be freely used in any given form for the communications and marketing of the competition. The competition has the right to freely transfer these rights to a third party. The main organizer will procure the production of the works based on the received Materials from a third party.

 

  1. Communications and confidentiality

The name of the winner will be published when the work is displayed. The competition has the right to freely use the work and the competition Materials in its communications.

 

  1. The rights of the organiser

The organiser of the competition has the right to disqualify all the proposals.

The organiser of the competition also has the right to interrupt the competition at any given time. If the competition is cancelled in its entirety, the organizer of the competition will not receive the rights for the Materials as expressed in section 9.  The decision of the jury is final, and the jury is not obliged to justify its decisions.
